What is the Premium Social Wall?
The Premium Social Wall is an amazing tool to keep your users engaged and allow them to communicate regularly with one another in your app.
The Premium Social Wall feature is like a mix between a chatroom and a message board. Users of your app can use it to create discussions, comment on existing ones, and even share images, as well as have one-on-one discussions with each other.
A user can also choose to follow the Premium Social Wall and they will receive push notifications when other users post to the wall they’re following as well as when other users comment on or like a post they’ve made.
What are some use cases for the Premium Social Wall?
Regardless of what your use case is, the Premium Social Wall is one of the best ways to increase communication and engagement. Some use cases include:
- Internal organization or team communication
- Ask-A-Pro question board
- Community building social network
- Product announcements with customer interaction
- Prayer wall for religious organizations
What is the Premium Social Wall’s primary function and what are the steps to accomplish it?
The main function of the Premium Social Wall is communication. As we mentioned earlier, the Premium Social Wall is a great way for your users to interact with you and each other. First we’ll go over what types of control you have in the Premium Social Wall, then we’ll go over how it’s used in-app.
How to Delete Posts
Most people can be civil, but from time to time you may need to remove posts from your social wall. If at any time you need to delete a post for whatever reason, you can do so by following these steps:
Step 1: Navigate to the post in the App Dashboard
Once you’ve navigated to the Social Wall feature that you want to remove the post from in the App Dashboard, scroll down to the post that you want to remove.
Step 2: In the Control Panel, click "Delete Post" and click again confirm it
Once you navigate to the post in the app dashboard, you’ll see the option to “Delete Post”. Click on that.
A pop-up will show asking you to verify that you want to delete the post. Click “Delete Post” again if you would like to remove that post from the social wall.
Doing so will permanently remove that post from the social wall. You can also completely reset the social wall by clicking the “Clear All and Reset the Wall” button:
Users also have the option of reporting a post while in-app. All they need to do is tap on the three dots under a post and select “Report Post”.
How to Ban Users
Similar to their posts, most of your users are awesome. But let's face it, there are some less-than-awesome people out there. If one of them happens to make it onto your app, you have the option to ban them from your Premium Social Wall. Here’s how:
Step 1: Navigate to a post from the user you want to ban
Just like deleting one of their posts, navigate to one of the posts of a user that you want to ban in the app dashboard.
Step 2: Click "Ban User" and click again to confirm it
Instead of clicking “Delete Post” click “Ban User”, then click it again on the pop-up verification message.
Now that you know how to delete posts and ban users, let’s go over some of the additional options that you have in the app dashboard in the “Settings” tab of your Premium Social Wall.
How to Adjust The Settings Of Your Premium Social Wall
In the “Settings” tab of the Premium Social Wall there’s a couple of additional options that you have for your social wall. Let’s go over each option.
The “Post Permission” section allows you to set additional parameters for users to be able to post in your social wall.
The first option allows you to limit posting permission to just users with specific tags assigned by you in this area. Users will still be able to comment on and like posts, but won’t be able to add posts to the main Social Wall.
In order to activate this all you need to do is check the box next to “Allow posts on main wall only by users with tags” and type in the tags that you want to use as limiters. All users of your app will be able to see posts on the social wall, but only users who have the required tags will be able to make posts.
Similar to that option is the ability to limit access to the private one-on-one messages using user tags in the “Allow posts on side threads only by users with tags” option.
With this enabled, users without the required tags can still open up the one-on-one messaging prompt, but they can’t send messages to the other user. This also disables the ability to comment on posts if the user doesn’t have the required tags applied to them.
If you want to completely disable the private one-on-one messaging option, you can check the box next to “Disable private chat” or if you don’t want anyone else to be able to join the social wall, you can also disable that option by clicking the box next to “Disable Follow/Leave Group”.
Now that you know about the control that you have over the Premium Social Wall in the app dashboard, we’ll go over how users interact with the Social Wall.
How to Make a Post to the General Social Wall in the App
When it comes to interaction with each other, there’s a number of options that your users have in your app (depending on what you have enabled or disabled in the settings of your Premium Social Wall). The main function of the Premium Social Wall is to allow users to make their own posts, and comment on or like other user’s posts. Here’s the process that a user goes through when making a post to the general social wall:
Step 1: Users tap on “Write A Post” and Sign-in to the app
The Premium Social Wall uses our built in user profiles feature. This means that once they tap “Write A Post” users will be prompted to login to the app to make their post on the Premium Social Wall if they are not already signed in.
Step 2: The User types their text into the text box
Once logged-in users will type what they want to say in the text box. If they’d like to add a picture to their post, all they need to do is tap on the camera icon and select the image that they want to post from their phone’s list of images.
Step 3: The User taps on “Post”
Once they have typed out what they want to post, all the user needs to do is tap the “post” button to send their message out. Other users that have the app downloaded and are following the wall, will receive a push notification letting them know about the new post.
Do Note: If the user uploads an image they won’t see the progress bar for it uploading until they tap the ‘Post’ button.
Other users have the option to comment on and like that post. If a user wants to like a post, all they need to do is tap on the heart icon under the post:
If they’d like to comment on the post, they’ll first tap on the speech bubble icon:
Then tap on “Write A Comment”.
Adding comments is a great way for users to foster interaction with each other!
How to Start a Private One-On-One Conversation with a User in the Social Wall in the App
Not only can users post to the general Social Wall, but in the Premiums Social Wall they can also start one-on-one conversations with one another (unless you adjusted the settings of the Social Wall to disable this). Here’s how a user can start a one-on-one conversation with another user:
Step 1: Tap on a User’s name above their Post in the social wall
In order for a one-on-one conversation to be created, at least one of the users need to make a post to the Social Wall. Once a post has been created by a user, anyone subscribed to that wall can start a one-on-one conversation with that user by tapping on their name above one of their posts (that is unless you adjusted the settings of your social wall to prevent this).
Step 2: The User types their text into the text box
Just like posting in the general social wall, the user will type what they want to say in the text box. If they’d like to add a picture to their post, all they need to do is tap on the camera icon and select the image that they want to post from their phone’s list of images.
Over time the conversation is saved, so if the users close the app and at a later time tap on each other’s names in the social wall, their previous conversation will be pulled up.
Congratulations! You now know how to adjust the settings of your Premium Social Wall, and how your users will use it.
What are some tips you should know about?
Having worked with apps for years, we’ve learned a thing or two. So, to both help your app stand out and accomplish your primary goals, here are some tips you should consider.
Pro Tip 1: Use Folders to Organize Your Content
If you would like to use multiple Premium Social Walls for various topics or purposes, you can use Folders to categorize them into a master “Social Wall”, “Chat”, or “Discussion Topics” section. You can learn more about Folders here.
Pro Tip 2: Learn About Your Users
In order to post, like, or comment on anything in a Premium Social Wall, users have to have an in-app account. This is great for you to learn about who’s in your app and what they like to talk about. You can also use this information later on when you target push notifications. You can learn more about Push Notifications here.
Pro Tip 3: Use Premium Social Walls in Conjunction with User Tagging and Security Settings
You can use the Premium Social Wall with our Advanced Access settings to allow only specific users to access and post on the wall. This can provide a segmented and private area for internal teams to communicate. To learn more about user tagging and security settings, check out our article on the Advanced Access Settings here.
Note: The Advanced Access Settings are only available on our Professional and Business level plans.
