How to use the Action Builder

Create powerful, flexible actions that link users to key app functionality.

The Action Builder lets you attach actions to images, buttons, WYSIWYG content, or any feature that supports Action Items. You can direct users to app content, open external links, send messages, trigger push notifications, initiate purchases, open maps, and more β€” all from a single, unified action editor.


Requirements

  • Available in any feature that supports Action Items (e.g., WYSIWYG, Image Carousel, Action Folder, Layout-based plugins)


How to use the Action Builder

  1. Log in, go to Builder in the left navigation

  2. Open the plugin where you want to add an action (e.g., WYSIWYG, Image Carousel, plugin with Action Items)

  3. Add an action item

    • In a WYSIWYG editor, click Insert β†’ Insert/edit action item

    • In a plugin that supports actions, click Add Action

  4. Stay in the Action Item Window

    • Link to App Content: Choose a plugin or feature in your app

    • Use App Settings: Link directly to App Settings

    • Use Bookmarks: Send users to the Bookmark screen

    • Use Notifications: Open the Push Notifications screen

    • Use Notes: Open the Notes screen

    • Use Search: Open global app search

    • Use Login: Send users to the Login screen

    • Contact options:

      1. Send Email (enter email, subject, body)

      2. Send Text Message

      3. Make a Phone Call

      4. Chat With Someone (select app users as contacts)

    • Maps: Add an address or location to open in maps

    • Push Notification Action: Trigger a push notification when the user taps the item

      1. Target current user or a custom segment

      2. Add message title and body

      3. (Optional) Add an in-app message

      4. (Optional) Add an action link in the notification

      5. (Optional) Delay the notification

      6. (Optional) Enable analytics tracking and set a tracking name + ID

    • Purchase: Link to an in-app purchase or subscription

    • Social Media: Link to Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn

    • Web Content: Add a URL

      1. Choose "Open in App" or "Open in Native Browser"

    • No Action: Make the element non-clickable


Pro tips

  • Keep action labels short so users know what will happen when they tap

  • If linking to external sites, prefer Open in App for a smoother UX

  • Use Push Notification Actions for automated follow-up flows

  • Use analytics tracking IDs to measure engagement on high-value actions
