How to use the Custom Action Folder plugin

The Custom Action Folder plugin lets you create a dynamic, personalized landing experience in your app. You can greet users by name, display sections based on user tags, and build fully customized layouts using actions, images, text, and toolbars. It offers deep flexibility for creating dashboards, home screens, welcome hubs, or personalized content blocks

Requirements:

  • This is a Boost plugin available on specific plans only

  • Users must be logged in to view the personalized screen

  • This plugin can be dependant on tagging, so it is helpful to have your tag structure set up prior to configuring.


How to use the Custom Action Folder plugin

  1. Log in, go to Builder in the left navigation

  2. Click the + button to open the Plugin Marketplace

    • Search for Custom Action Folder, then click Add Plugin

    • Name your plugin and choose whether to add it to the side menu, then click Add

  3. Stay in the Content tab

    • Add an introductory message using the WYSIWYG

      1. Insert text, images, videos, or other content

      2. This appears at the top of the feature

    • Review the user greeting section

      1. Logged-out users see “Welcome to App Name” with Sign Up or Log In buttons

      2. Logged-in users see their profile image and a personalized greeting

      3. Adjust the greeting text in the Language tab

    • Scroll to the Sections area and click Add to create your first section. Each section can have its own layout, tag rules, and items.

      1. Enter a section title

        1. Toggle the option to show or hide the title

      2. Select a user tag for visibility

        1. Leave blank to show the section to all users

        2. Enter a tag to make the section visible only to users with that tag

      3. Choose a layout for the section

        1. Toolbar Layout shows icons with titles

        2. Carousel Layout shows rectangular horizontal-scrolling items

        3. Horizontal Layout shows square horizontal-scrolling items

        4. Vertical Layout shows a simple list

        5. Vertical Layout with Text adds a subtitle/description field to each item

      4. Click Add Section Item to add an action

        1. Choose an action type such as:

          1. App Content

          2. Contact options

          3. Map

          4. Push Notification

          5. Purchase

          6. Placeholder (No Action) if you only want to display an item without linking

        2. Upload or select an icon or image

        3. Update the name and description fields as needed

        4. Click Save

        5. Add additional section items as needed

          1. Use the pencil icon to edit

          2. Use the X icon to delete

  4. Click the Design tab

    • Choose between two main layout options

    • Enable advanced mode to modify CSS for deeper customization

  5. Click the Settings tab

    • Toggle Show Header Section to show or hide the user greeting area

    • Enable Custom Colors to set a header color and toolbar color

  6. Click the Security tab

    • Turn on Require Login to restrict feature access to logged-in users

    • (Optional) Add tag-based restrictions and choose whether to match any or all tags

  7. Click the Tagging tab

    • Enter a tag name to automatically apply to users when they open this feature

    • Click Add Tag

  8. Click the Purchase tab

    • Check Require Purchase to enable

    • Choose your product type such as Single Purchase or Subscription

    • Upload an image, fill out purchase text, and success/failure messages

  9. Click the Analytics tab to see feature performance

    • Track user visits, behavior, and engagement with the custom action folder

  1. Use section tags to create personalized dashboards that show different sections to different users

  2. Mix layouts across sections for a more dynamic home page design

  3. Use Vertical Layout with Text for more descriptive menu options or learning paths
