Some app updates must go through the Apple App Store or Google Play review process again, while others can be published immediately from the app Control Panel. Apple and Google have different review and submission requirements, and the same type of change may be treated differently on each platform.
That said, you do not need to decide this manually. Our system automatically detects whether a change requires a new build and app store resubmission. The guidelines below are provided to help you understand why a build may be triggered, not to determine whether one is required. When you click Publish, the platform handles the correct workflow for you.
How do I know which app changes require a new build?
Changes that require a new build and app store resubmission
Updating App Store or Google Play listing details such as app title, description, keywords, support URL, marketing URL, category, or short description.
Adding or modifying features that request new device permissions, including camera, microphone, or location access.
Updating app branding elements such as the app icon, app icon name, or loading screen.
Adding in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Adding the Google Billing Key requires a new build.
Adding a product ID for the first time on Android requires a new build.
On iOS, every new product or subscription requires a new build and resubmission.
Updating App Store screenshots.
Only Apple requires a new build for any screenshot update.
Changes that do not require a new build and go live immediately
Updating plugin content such as images, text, videos, or media.
Adding, removing, or rearranging plugins.
Updating colors, fonts, layouts, or design settings inside plugins.
Editing content within features, including folders, lists, and screens.
Any content-only change that does not affect store metadata, permissions, or system-level configuration.
Click Publish after making your changes.
If the change requires a new build, the app publishing team is notified and handles submission to Apple or Google.
If the change does not require a new build, updates go live immediately.
Pro tips
Apple is generally more strict than Google when it comes to resubmissions.
iOS in-app purchases always require a new build for each new product.
You don’t need to second-guess the rules. If a build is required, the app will automatically trigger it when you publish.
