How to initiate a message using the Chat plugin

You can use the Chat plugin to send direct messages from different areas of your app, leveraging the Directory, Community Wall, or Uploads plugin.


Requirements

  • This is an Accelerate plugin, available on specific plans only.

  • The Chat plugin must be connected to at least one of the following: Directory, Community Wall, or Uploads.

  1. Open the Directory and view the list of users

  2. Tap on the user you want to message

  3. Tap the messaging option (label may vary depending on your app setup)

  4. You’ll be taken to your message thread with that user—if no previous thread exists, a new one will be started

  1. Tap on a user’s name or profile picture

  2. list of options will appear—tap Send Direct Message

  3. You’ll be directed to the conversation thread

  1. Tap the number next to the upload arrow to view a list of uploaders

  2. Tap on the name of the uploader you wish to message

  3. Tap the Message option to open the conversation thread


Pro tips

  • The messaging label (e.g., "Chat") can be customized in your app’s settings

  • Threads persist between sessions, so returning users can continue past conversations seamlessly


Troubleshooting tips

  • If the messaging option isn’t showing, confirm that the Chat plugin is properly connected to the Directory, Community Wall, or Uploads plugin

  • Make sure the user you are trying to message is logged in and has messaging permissions enabled
